Because we are free, we can never be indifferent to the fate of freedom elsewhere.
— Former US President Jimmy Carter, Inaugural Address, January 20, 1977.

Naturism: a philosophy of freedom

Concept for international networking and collaboration: web domains listed below are registered for possible future non-profit use, but currently all direct to this site. Numerous international non-profit, non-government entities could be created under a banner of equality and naturism, financed by one or more charitable foundations of public utility. International Naturist Federation (INF-FNI) - as it exists - is dysfunctional: It relies on an incompatible combination of membership categories (payment of annual fees seems its only method of holding members accountable!)

Athena’s International Outreach Network (a-ion.org)

Flame of Athena

Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and strategy, embodies intelligence and thoughtful action. She represents the pursuit of knowledge and the strategic planning necessary for societal change.

World Naturist Philosophy (worldnaturistphilosophy.org)

Torch of Inanna

Inanna, the Sumerian goddess of love, fertility and transformation, represents empowerment, resilience and the reclaiming of autonomy. Her mythical journey into the underworld and her return symbolise the strength to face challenges and inspire change.

Terra Naturis Land Trust (terranaturis.org)

“Forest of Freya”

Freya, the Nordic goddess of love, beauty and war, embodies balance and harmony. She symbolises the creation of spaces where people can feel safe, respected and connected to nature and to themselves.

International Federation of Naturist Artists (naturistartists.org)

Art of Calliope

Calliope, the Greek muse of epic poetry and eloquence, symbolises the potential of art to connect, heal and inspire change.

Global League for Acceptance and Diversity (gladnaturism.org)

Amazonian Paths

The Amazons, legendary warriors from Greek mythology, embody independence, strength and community. They symbolise the breaking down of barriers and the elevation of others.

Global Council for Sustainable Naturism (sustainablenaturism.org)

Circle of Gaia

Gaia, the personification of the Earth in Greek mythology, represents life, nature and the interconnection of all living beings. She emphasises the harmony between humanity and the environment.

World Assembly of Naturist Collectives (naturistassembly.org)

Could collaborate to hold joint assemblies with INF-FNI

Naturism: a tree of possibilities

Countless entities are possible, within an international network, all of which may require sustainable private funding from third sector sources (not by individual naturists, nor by corporate entities seeking returns on investments), e.g.

  • Athena’s International Outreach Network (AION): An International Non-Governmental Organisation connecting various organisations relating to naturism, with transparent and accountable governance.

  • World Naturist Philosophy (WNP): A platform featuring blog-style articles discussing naturist philosophy and ethics, and also a space for philosophical debates or forums.

  • Terra Naturis Land Trust (TNLT): This features interactive maps showing protected naturist spaces, along with updates on new land acquisitions and preservation efforts.

  • International Federation of Naturist Artists (IFNA): A virtual art gallery featuring global naturist-inspired works, including a submission portal for artists to contribute to exhibitions.

  • Global League for Acceptance and Diversity (GLAD): An organisation sharing testimonial stories of inclusion, along with community-building tools such as forums and mentorship directories.

  • Global Council for Sustainable Naturism (GCSN): A resource hub offering guides on sustainable naturist practices and updates on environmental projects and collaborations.

  • World Assembly of Naturist Collectives (WANC): Global gathering of representatives from all affiliated organisations, held once every 4 years.

Each affiliated entity gets a dedicated page summarising its mission, key activities, and upcoming conference details, as well as links to standalone websites with announcements on major initiatives, resolutions, and projects. Additionally, participant directories and secure areas facilitate connections among registered members and participants. Changing themes and cross-entity projects that span multiple disciplines (e.g., an art exhibition sponsored by IFNA, hosted in a TNLT sanctuary) can be highlighted.

Conference cycle example for a 4-year rotation:

  • Year 1: "Philosophy of Freedom" (WNP) & "Preserving Our Spaces" (TNLT).

  • Year 2: "Naturist Art in Action" (IFNA) & "Diversity in Community" (GLAD).

  • Year 3: "Sustainability and Naturism" (GCSN) & "Outreach for Understanding" (AION).

  • Year 4: "Global Unity for Naturism" (WANC Global Assembly).

Vision for INF-FNI

Several international non-governmental organisations (INGOs) implement robust accreditation mechanisms to ensure high standards of governance, accountability, and mission alignment among member entities worldwide. These mechanisms typically involve:

  • Rigorous application processes.

  • Periodic reviews.

  • Compliance monitoring.

Notable INGOs - e.g. Amnesty International, Médecins Sans Frontières, Transparency International, International Federation of Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies, World Wildlife Fund etc. - prioritise financial transparency and anti-corruption goals in accrediting their constituent members. Failure to meet these standards should result in revocation or suspension of accreditation.

International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) might represent an example for INF-FNI to learn from.

INF-FNI requires improved accreditation mechanisms, e.g:

  1. Clear Standards: INF-FNI must establish clear standards, requiring good governance, financial accountability and mission alignment from all members. The existing membership categories are illogical, nationalistic, corporatist and discriminatory, and should be revised. INF-FNI should streamline its membership structure, limiting it to either legal or natural persons but not both. The current "corporate partners" category raises concerns that the organisation is set to prioritise private profit and is inconsistent with a non-profit mission.

  2. Redefine its mission and purpose: INF-FNI should campaign to desexualise and decriminalise normal human nudity worldwide. It should also promote equal and healthy relationships between all humans, regardless of gender; for instance, INF-FNI should campaign to criminalise content that encourages violence, such as online pornography that dehumanises victims and promotes strangulation during sex.

  3. Periodic Reviews: Regular evaluations to ensure compliance and address deficiencies.

  4. Transparency: Require members to report activities, finances, and outcomes consistently.

  5. Capacity Building: Offer support to help member entities establish themselves worldwide and align with good governance standards.

  6. Enforcement Mechanisms: Include processes for suspension, revocation, or probation if standards are not met.

INF-FNI might thus ensure its member entities remain aligned with organisational goals and maintain a high level of trust and credibility globally.
